Daily Readings from the Book of Concord
Week 39 - Sept 22 through 26, 2008I'm going to experiment for a while with daily readings from the Book of Concord and see if I can come up with something that can be automated. It's always been a goal of mine to generate a daily readings system to help Lutherans read the Book of Concord, but I've not sat down and tried to figure out how to do it previously. I've generated the weekly readings (http://lcmssermons.com/boc), and have had it going for years now, but those are brief readings (tied to the pericope of the day) intended to go into bulletins and just entice the reader to find out more about the BoC. Looking over the reading guide at the beginning of the Concordia (2nd edition), it's divided into weeks, from week 1 through week 52, and days, M-F in each week. There are two method of doing this .. one is I set up a system that starts each individual with week 1 and works them through the year; the other is we just jump in mid-steam. Well, the first method is pretty complicated and will take some programming, customization, and setting it up. The second just takes a little tweaking to get things going. So .. let's start this experiment with just jumping in in the middle of the readings. This is week 39 in 2008, and today is Wednesday, so .. I'm going to try distributing that information and see what happens. Please reply to us and tell me what you think! So today, week 39 is from the SD, pages 510-515. From the Concordia we read the following: M Summary 14-20; T Article I 1-6; W 7-15; Th 16-25; F 26-32. Let's figure out what this means. Turning to page 510 of my Concordia I see we are in the middle of the ruleandnorm section, and indeed paragraphs 14-20 end that section. Article I (Original Sin) starts immediately following. So here are the readings for this week: Monday read from the summary paragraphs 14-20. This are the Articles in Controversy with Respect to the Antithesis, or Opposite Doctrine. Now, remember to only read what is shown for the day! You will read ahead otherwise! The links I provide above just put you into the middle of the SD, they don't stop at the end of the reading for the day. I'm going to put this document on the RSS feed for today. It's up to you to come back here every day, select the reading of the day, and actually do the reading. I'll eventually probably set up an email list to deliver you the link to read the section of the BOC for each day, but I stongly believe in the principle KIS - Keep It Simple. Start with little steps and progress until you have a nice system. Again -- get back to me and tell me how you like this!
